Thoubal cops strike back, drugs worth Rs 3 cr seized

In yet another blow to drug traffickers, a joint team of Thoubal Police Commandos and Lilong Police have seized huge quantity of 'BIOCET' tablets containing pseudoephedrine drugs worth about Rs.3 crores from two persons during frisking at Lilong Upakthong today.
The alleged drug traffickers have been identified as Md Tajuddin Saha (39), s/o Md Ajimuddin of Thoubal Hayel Loubuk and Takhellambam Bokul Singh (51), s/o T Takhel of Wangjing Sorokhaibam Leikai.
They were travelling in a Maruti Gypsy bearing registration no.NL04C-1147 along with the consignment of psychotropic drugs.
The drugs were found packed in several gunny bags inside the Maruti Gypsy.
The value of the seized drugs has been estimated at around Rs.3 crores in the international market.
In connection with the latest seizure, it is said that acting on reliable information on the movement of drug smugglers involved in ferrying of illegal drugs in and around Lilong Looumanga Dam area and Kaleikhong dam with intent to smuggle the same into Myanmar, a joint team of Thoubal district police under the supervision of its SP Dr AK Jhalajit Singh carried out frisking and checking of the vehicles coming from Dam area towards Chingkham Makha in order to reach National Highway 2 (Imphal-Moreh Road) at Lilong Upakthong today.
At around 12.10 pm, one Maruti Gypsy (bearing registration no NL04C-1147) was seen coming towards Chingkham Makha and it was stopped for checking.
Inside the Maruti Gypsy, two persons including the driver were found travelling with big packed carton boxes wrapped in gunny bags.
In the first box, 16640 strips (166400 tablets) of 'BIOCET' Pseudoephedrine tablets were found.
The second box contained 7760 strips (77600 tablets) of 'BIOCET' Pseudoephedrine tablets while in the third box, 7520 strips (75200 tablets) of 'BIOCET' Pseudoephedrine tablets were found, thus, altogether 31920 strips (319200 tablets) of 'BIOCET' Pseudoephedrine tablets were found being carried by the two individuals.
The market value of the seized contraband drugs in the market is at least Rs 95.76 lakhs, but it would fetch upto around Rs 3 crores once the consignment reached Moreh.
Through interrogation of the two drug smugglers, it was established that the illegal contraband drugs have been taken from one Md Wahidur s/o Md Abdus Salam of Lilong Atongkhong and the drug consignment was meant to be transported to Moreh.
SP Thoubal Dr AK Jhalajit has informed that in the arrest of the two drug smugglers and seizure of the contraband drugs, OC Lilong PS and the general public of Lilong area have extended valuable contributions.
