Imphal, September 22 2018:
The Thadou Students' Association, General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ) vehemently condemned the "mob violence" carried out in the Manipur University spearheaded by the Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) on September 20 .
The mob had 'threatened' the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Registrar (i/c) thereby making the them signed apology letters, said a statement of secretary, Information & Publicity, Thadou Students' Association, General Headquarters today.
"We also condemn the desperate public campaign taken up by the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and its constituent bodies.
University which had to be free from politics is becoming the driving force and good opportunity for the MPCC to strike back its opponent BJP," said the statement.
Such incident also happened during the Congress regime, it said.
"It was in 2016, the mass exodus of tribal students was happened wherein the seed of hatred between the tribals and the valley was sown.
The politics is still on.
Therefore, the blatant politicization and mechanism to defame the BJP by MPCC is quite unfortunate.
Therefore, education as stated should be free from politics and no political party should say anything in this regards and the incumbent Government should also not interfere in politics particularly at Manipur University, since the varsity being sensitive and volatile.
The people of Manipur should not be misguided, misinformed and instigated," it alleged.
If the intention of MUSU was to remove AP Pandey from the post of Vice-Chancellor, then MUSU should shun agitation and confrontation against the Pro-VC K, Yugindro and Registrar (i/c) Shyamkesho consequent upon the suspension of Prof AP Pandey, it asserted.
It further questioned if the MUSU has vested interest in the post of VC of the varsity.
"Being student, it is more important to focus on our education rather than bullying the post of Vice-Chancellor for vested interest," it said.
Mentioning that State Cabinet recently passed an ordinance implementing the Manipur Mob Violence Control and Prohibition Bill, 2018, TSA alleged that 'mob justice' for removal of VC is intolerable.
"Mob involved in the agitation for removal of Prof Pandey during the course of investigation should be dealt severely and the Government should also seriously take due cognizance over this mob violence movement," alleged TSA.
Meanwhile, it appealed all civil societies that the chaos in the University should be 'discontinued' and 'stopped' immediately whereby giving no support to this 'devil' movement.
