Workshop / orientation programme held

A one day Workshop cum Orientation Programme of 18 Major Tribal Languages in Manipur was held today at Manipur Press Club today organised by Directorate of Language and Planning and Implementation (LPI), Govt of Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Th Chitra, IAS, Director of LPI said that the programme is organised to promote the various tribal languages of the State and to work for its development.
She continued that there are 34 tribal communities in the State and out of these, 18 languages are recognised as the Major Tribal Languages.
She further stated that these 18 languages have their respective literary societies and these societies are carrying out various literary forms of work for the development of the languages and lauded the contributions of such societies.
There were two sessions in today's programme and Prof Ch Yashwanta was the moderator of the morning session and Prof P Nabachandra of the afternoon session.
Papers were also presented by representatives of the literary societies and they were given a shawl each as a mark of respect.
