Conference on National Education Policy, 2020 held

A one day conference on National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 under the theme 'NEP, 2020: Promises and challenges with special reference to Higher Education' was held at conference hall of MUTA, Manipur University (MU) today.
The conference is organised by Manipur University Teachers Association (MUTA) and it was divided into two sessions where professors of MU gave presentations on different topics.
In the first session, chaired by N Deva, retired professor of Geography Dept MU, Prof Debananda Ningthoujam of Biochemistry Dept spoke on the topic 'NEP, 2020: Promises and Challenges'.
He said that while implementing NEP 2020 in the State, emphasis should be given in 'local solution, global outlook' .
The new education policy will benefit the universities and colleges in the State largely however the pros and cons need to be discussed thoroughly before its implementation, he added.
Elaborating about the Common Entrance Test (CET) mentioned in NEP, 2020 which aims to improve the standard of entrance test and enrolment but if its implemented soon, those students who are seeking admission in the colleges/universities of the State may lose the chance of getting admitted.
Prof Debananda also stressed on the need for developing Manipur University as a Multidisciplinary Education and Research University (MERU) in par with IITs and IIMs.
During the session, Prof N Lokendra and Prof Ch Ibohal delivered lectures on other topics.
The second session was chaired by Prof W Vishwanath.
Later, a panel discussion was held with W Nabakumar, retired professor of Anthropology Dept as the chairman.
