Needs for educating girl child stressed

33 years of Integrated Rural Development Service Organisation (IRDSO) and 36 years of Institute of Rural Education (IRE), Wangjing were celebrated at IRDSO office complex at Wangjing yesterday.
At the event, WinG (Women in Governance) Manipur convenor and IRDSO chief functionary Nonibala Narengbam talked about the various activities IRDSO and WingG undertook and said that the organisations will continue their effort to elevate and empower women.
There were about 67 cases related to women and children in Thoubal district in the previous year, she said expressing the importance of educating the people about crime against women and children.
All girl children should be provided education and public awareness should be raised.
Women and girls should be informed about their rights to bring down crime against them, she said adding that IRDSO has been assisting girls in need.
Identifying good education as a way out for poor and deprived girl children, she said that 'IRDSO would love to assist them to realise their dreams'.
A trust founded in the name of the IRDSO and IRE founder late Narengbam Ibotombi is currently sponsoring education for 26 children, she said adding that efforts are on to sponsor more such children.
She also urged people to inform IRDSO about orphan children who need care and education.
Staff and various contributors who assist IRDSO were feted at the event.
