With the steady increase in the numbers of vehicles plying on the roads of Imphal city and the resultant problem of finding parking space faced by the public, the state government is considering to convert the upper floor of the three Ima Keithels as parking lot.
According to reliable sources, since the number of vehicles on the roads of Imphal is increasing day-by-day and there is no insufficient parking space, the Traffic Regulation and Parking Committee which was formed under the Transport Department, Government of Manipur, has decided to provide parking lots for the people of the state on the top floor of the three Ima Keithels.
The top floor of the three Ima Keithel is lying vacant present and can be used for the said purpose.
The source further revealed that the Traffic Regulation and Parking Committee had already approached the women vendors of the three Ima Keithels in connection with the proposal and efforts are being made to arrive at a decision.
The Committee is positive that the women vendors would surely agree to the proposal.
The willingness of the women vendors in the three Ima Keithels to provide space for parking vehicles on the top floor of the market complexes would help in reducing traffic congestion to a large extent in Imphal city and resolve the problem of finding parking space for their vehicles.
If, at all the women vendors, objected to the proposal, the Committee would look for other possible areas where parking lots could be set up, the source maintained.
Meanwhile, another source informed that process is underway for shifting the staffs of Electricity Department located at Keishampat Junction to the High Court complex where the High Court Judges are staying and the vacated area of the Electricity department would be converted into parking lots.
