Trade Unions' general strike comes into effect

In response to the 12-hour nation-wide general strike being called by the Central Trade Unions from 6 am to 6 pm tomorrow, as many as 75 trade unions, associations and federations in Manipur under the joint banner of Co-ordinating Body of Trade Unions, Manipur have announced their support to the strike.
The nation-wide general strike is being called jointly by Central trade unions namely BMS, INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, AICCTU, UTUC, TUCC, LPF and SEWA, in pursuance of a 10-point charter of demands including protest against rising prices, disinvestment of profit-making PSUs and violation of labour.

Meanwhile, observing that the issues being raised by trade unions are common to the entire working class of our country, the National Confederation of Bank Employees INCBE), Manipur State Unit has also decided to join the general strike to fight against the power to be for the emancipation of the downtrodden and fulfillment of the workers' unity.
Consequently, all the public sector banks, private banks, rural banks, co-operative banks including State Bank of India in the state would remain close tomorrow, General Secretary of NCBE (Manipur State Unit) H Kishwarjit Singh informed in a statement.
