Imphal, August 16, 2010:
Everything passed off well, despite the call to boycott the Independence day given by numerous armed groups, thanks to the strict security measures taken up, but a moment of apprehension and alarm reigned at the 1st MR Parade Ground, when DGP Y Joykumar collapsed, while the Chief Minister was giving his Independence Day speech at the 1st MR ground.
The DGP who was standing just behind the CM during the function suddenly collapsed, raising a minor alarm.
Fortunately, the DGP's fall was broken by a security personnel assigned to the CM's security escort who rushed in and managed to stop the DGP from hitting the ground.
Many senior police officers also rushed in to extend a helping hand.
Later the DGP left the function mid-way.
At the time of filing this report it is not very clear whether he was taken to any medical centre for necessary diagnosis.
It is however learnt that the DGP was taken home where he was advised complete rest.
Though there is no official report, it is believed that the DGP might have collapsed due to sheer exhaustion, following the round the clock duty for security arrangements ahead of the Independence Day celebration.
