Honey processing units opened at CAU

Central Agricultural University Vice Chancellor Professor M Premjit inaugurated two honey extraction and processing units at the Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre (IBDC), CAU campus yesterday.
Speaking at the event, Professor M Premjit said that the honey extraction and processing units were installed under the National Bee Board, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
The units have a combined capacity of processing 750 kilograms of honey per hour.
One unit have a producing capacity of 500 kg honey per hour while the other have the capacity of producing 250 kg honey per hour, he said.
He advised the beekeepers and farmers to visit the extraction and processing units at CAU and get their crude honey extracted.
Farmers can sell their produces (honey) with proper label and logo at market for income generation, he added.
Meanwhile, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Imphal East, Directorate of Extension Education, CAU started a 4-day capacity building training prog - Farming system & value chain management for upliftment of rural economy & livelihood today at the conference hall of CAU, Imphal.
The programme was organised by IBDC under the Directorate of Extension Education, CAU.
CAU VC Prof M Premjit, Registrar CAU Prof K Momocha Singh, Dean College of Agriculture Prof Y Jakendra Singh, Prof Ratankumar Saha (Directorate of Extension Education) among others attended the event.
Prof M Premjit encouraged farmers to adopt integrated farming systems - horticulture based integrated farming system, livestock based integrated farming system to increase their income generation.
Agricultural tourism will not only attract visitors but also motivate the local unemployed youths to adopt the farming system that will provide a more sufficient income, he said.
