151 candidates lost deposits in 9th Assembly Elections

As many as 151 candidates out of the 308 who contested the 9th Manipur LegislativeAssembly Elections lost their deposits as they failed to get one sixth of the total votes of their respective constituencies.
However, how much candidates out of the 291 candidates vying for the 60 assembly seats will lost their deposits will be known on March 6, the day of counting of votes.
The deposit amount of the 9th Assembly Election held in 2007 was Rs 5000 while the amount has been increased doublefold this year to Rs 10,000.According to the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, candidates who failed to get one sixth of the total valid vote in their respective constituencies will lose their deposit amounts as penalty.
