Imphal, March 09, 2013:
The main factor behind the failure of Sadar Hills to become a full fledged revenue district is the lack of unity among the different communities namely the Kukis, the Nagas and the Nepalese settling in the region, IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip has observed.
He was speaking on the occasion of Ist foundation day celebration of Sadar Hills District Sports Veteran Association, Manipur at Ngahmun Veteran Home Ground today.
A memorial stone was also erected to mark the event held under the theme "Peace, Unity and Harmony".
The Minister recalled that the seed for emergence of Sadar Hills into a full-fledged reveneue district was sown during the Chief Ministership of Rishang Keishing.
However, the initiative came to nothing following failure of demarcating the boundary of the proposed Sadar Hills district in time.
Then, during the time of Chief Minister W Nipamacha, the proposed boundary of Sadar Hills was finally demarcated and the State Government was thinking of bringing up the matter in the Cabinet meeting to declare Sadar Hills as a district, but lack of unity among the various communities settling in the region has derailed the whole effort.
The Minister maintained that there can be development in Sadar Hills only after the region is declared as a full-fledged revenue district and appealed to the different communities living in Sadar Hills to do away with their differences and live together as members of the same family.
"We should support one another in every move for the betterment of the society and should not be divided on communal grounds", the Minister exhorted.
Minister Ngamthang Haokip further appealed to the people of the region to support the district Council's administration which is trying to develop the hill areas from the grassroots level.
The function was also attended by MLA Nemcha Kipgen; Chairman of ADC Chandel Lukhosei Zou and Chairman of Kangpokpi ADC Haokholet Hangshing.
