Imphal, July 08 2014:
The class eight student who died on July 3 in Tamei was due to typhoid and not due to malaria, according to Pougaibou, convenor of Zeliangrong Students Union, Tamei Area.
Meanwhile, two more persons from Tamei subdivision have died today following some diseases.
Both were brought to Imphal in serious conditions and died today--one at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal ans the other at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
According to former president of Kuilong Area Students' Union Mr Liangkebou, a class 4 student was brought to JNIMS but due to delayed medical attention she passed away today.
It is not clear due to what disease the student died but Liangkebou said the student had a very high fever.
She has been identified as one Easter Pamei, 9 years old, daughter of one Hulungpingbou, Kuilong village under Tamei sub division.
The second person has been identified as one Lenkuilakbou (30), s/o Mairipibou of Illeng village, also under Tamei subdivision.
According to Liangkebou, the patient was brought to RIMS.
The former Kuilong Area Students Union leader said if doctors were there at Tamei PHC these two persons' lives could have been saved.
On July 3, a typhoid had claimed the life of a class-8 student of Hamai English School at Tamei under Tamenglong district and there has been rising number of patients at Tamei Primary Health Centre (PHC) but due to absence of doctors the situation is getting worse, according to Zeliangrong Students Union-Tamei Area (ZSU-TA) .
Numerous diseases are affecting the Tamei sub division but in want of doctors the plight of the patients is mounting by the day, rued Pougaibou, convenor of ZSU-TA.
He also said that at least there should be five doctors posted at the Tamei PHC but that was not done.
"The transfer order of the only doctor who is posted at the Tamei PHC has also been issued adding to the woes of the people," Pougaibou further narrated.
The convenor of ZSU-TA has threatened to resort to serious forms of agitation along the national highways in collaboration with other students' bodies if the required number of doctors are not posted at the Tamei PHC by the state government.
"Time and again we have been requesting the concerned authorities to post doctors at the PHC but to no avail," Pougaibou said.
The student leader also said that the whole sub division of Tamei is depending on the Tamei PHC "but the state government continues to show its callous and indifferent attitude towards the people of Tamei sub division" .
