The Manipur Biodiversity board in collaboration with FRLHT a leading Medicinal Plant conservation organisation from Bangalore conducted a three day training programme for the BMC members from December 4 to 6, 2013 at the Manipur Forest training school, Luwangsangbam.
This training has four levels, where in the course is split and designed to be taken up in a distant education cum contact class mode which is more of a self learning programme.
The course has a curriculum and manual, which is in the local language, a statement said.
The training was inaugurated by TS Ibobi Singh Addl PCCF and graced by Dr K Haridasan, FRLHT, Bangalore.
From Manipur Biodiversity Board, Shital Singh, Assistant Conservator of Forests and Bir Mongal, Range Forest Officer coordinated the training programme.
Experts from FRLHT, Manipur University, IBSD, ORDC, KVK Hengbung and Forest department delivered lectures and conducted the training programme during the programme.
N Tombi Raj president of Apunba Manipur Maiba, Maibi Phurup (Manipur State Traditional Healers Association) also interacted with the participants and introduced them to the rich Traditional Medicinal Heritage of the State.
He explained the documentation process of Local Health Traditions.
This training is expected to impart capacity in the BMCs for taking up the task of preparation of People's Biodiversity Registers which is a mandate under the National Biodiversity Act.
This will also enable the participants to take informed decision related to Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS under the CBD).
Altogether 22 participants representing 6 districts of the state underwent the training.
Dr Khaizalian, Member Secretary, Manipur Biodiversity Board mentioned that the board plans to impart such trainings to more members and cover the entire state with the help of FRLHT and local organisations.
