Picked up from Andro, PLA man found shot dead at Phangrei Hill

A self-styled lieutenant of People's Liberation Army (PLA), the armed wing of proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), who had been reportedly pulled up by unidentified persons suspected to be security force personnel on November 2, was found dead with gunshot wounds on his head by the roadside along National Highway 150 at a place called Zero Point located between Lunghar and Phangrei in Ukhrul district Monday morning.
Police recovered the body which has been identified as that of one Hijam Babu alias Ram Singh (33), son of (L) Sutol Singh of Andro Kharam Leikai under Andro Police Station in Imphal East district.
He was said to be a lieutenant of PLA and was supposed to marry next March.
The body was found by the roadside 4kms from Phangrei Hill towards Lunghar village, Ukhrul and bore wounds of two bullets on his left side head.
Police said the man had been taken away from his neighbourhood on November 2 by men coming in three vehicles.
This was also corroborated by his uncle who came and identified the deceased at Ukhrul police station.

The uncle who is stationed at 6MR in Ukhrul town told the media that some Hindi speaking men came in three vehicles and took Babu away from Andro Kharam Dam near Leicheng Khappam at around 7 pm on November 2 .
Chingakham Thambalngou, an aunt of slain Babu, recalled that he came to her residence that night before he was forcibly taken away by the unknown persons.
He entered her residence and took a jug of water saying he wanted to give it to his friends waiting outside the residential gate.
The unidentified duo came in a two-wheeler, she added.
She suddenly heard a noisy sound of commotion near the gate and rushed out to see Babu being pulled up and whisked away in a Bolero jeep by around 10 security personnel wearing Khaki pants.
However, he was found death at Zero Point located between Lunghar and Phangei in Ukhrul district around 8 am today.
His dead body was spotted by some villagers.
The family of Babu lodged a complaint with Yairipok PS regarding his kidnapping by unidentified people on November 3.However, the police told them that there was no official report of his arrest.
Other concerned police stations also gave the same reply, Thambalngou further said.
Family sources said the deceased was wearing a slipper at the time of being picked up but was found with an oversize pair of new jungle boots on his feet.
Before the news of recovering the body of Babu reached the family members, All Andro Meira Paibi Association (AAMPA) staged a protest demonstration at Andro bazaar today.
At the demonstration site, troops of 28 Assam Rifles came and tried to take photograph of the protesters but the meira paibis pulled down the banner and placards and then showed their back at the AR personnel.
Seeing the non-cooperative act of the protesters, the AR troops left the site.
The sit-in protest was organized behind the banner: "Keep Babu safe if the law wants to punish him." They also held placards that read: "Release Babu safely and find out whereabouts of him" .
Talking to mediapersons on the sideline of the protest demonstration, Aheibam Ongbi Tenu, President of AAMPA lamented that killings of people after forced disappearance are occurring frequently in the State.
She also said the people are against such arbitrary act.
Meanwhile, following the recovery of the dead body, police have registered a suo moto case of FIR 31(11) 2012 Ukhrul PS under section 302 IPC and 25(1)-2 Arms Act.
