Kangpokpi, February 01 2021:
The leaders of Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students Union convened a deliberation yesterday with the Village Authority and elders of Konsaram village (Konsakhul), Kangpokpi district regarding the January 29 incident, in which some villagers suffered bullet injury due to alleged indiscriminate firing resorted by the security forces while trying to secure the areas of the proposed site of National Sports University (NSU) following a protest demonstration held by the villagers, said a statement of ZYF.
As per the villagers, it is learnt that the proposed NSU site belongs to Konsaram village which can be substantiated and proved with relevant documents.
The matter was timely highlighted to the previous State Government as well as the present Government by way of several memoranda for taking up appropriate measures under the relevant rules of procedures and provisions of Land Acquisition Act even if the land is required for developmental purposes, it added.
ZYF alleged that using security forces by the Government to trample upon the rights of the land owners without following due process of law is usurpation of tribal people's land by the Government in the pretext of development.
This is rather unfortunate.
The ZYF and ZSU further appealed to the State Government to hot shirk its responsibilities of addressing the grievances of its citizens but explore a mechanism to resolve the matter through mutual understanding and relevant rules so that the feelings and sentiments of any community is not hurt in the collective efforts towards building harmony in the State.
The State Government should also bear the medical treatment expenditure of the injured villagers as a responsible people's Government, it added.
