AMADA's fight renewed

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed here today with a mammoth rally organised by the All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) in which thousands of people took part.
A public meeting held after the rally drafted a 10-point resolution for effective drive against drug abuse, alcohol, intoxicant items and illicit trafficking.
Among others, the resolution include opposing the state government enforcing the Eastern Bengal and Assam Excise Act, 1910, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act as a part of "Revenue Policy".

The public meeting resolved to frame rules for the Manipur Excise Service like that of Mizoram Excise Service so as to enable the excise personnel to discharge their duties effectively like that of Mizoram and urged the state government to keep the state Excise Department under the state Home Department instead of keeping it under Finance Department.
Other resolutions includes, to conduct awareness programmes at the schools and locality levels on the impact of using intoxicant items and drug abuse, inclusion of evil side of intoxicant items in the school curriculum, to discuss and find a way to stop brewing of liquors for earning livelihood has been on the raise in the state as customary of the society.
To have vigilant on the services of the government hospital, private hospital, laboratory, clinic, CHC, PHC for improvement of its services to the people, to conduct campaign to make sports and medical sector "free zone" for making up a society free from all illness, to eliminate corruption in this sector also included in the 10-point draft resolution.
The resolution proposed for inclusion of sports sector within the category of essential service and relaxed from all sort of bandhs and general strike and to try the highlight the present situation of the state affected by drug abuse and its impacts to people outside the state.
The observation function of the AMADA was opened with a massive rally participated by hundreds of youths and womenfolk which was kicked off from THAU ground.
The rally was flagged off by MLA RK Anand.
The rally marched on the streets proceeded towards Chingmeirong via Leelasingh Khongnangmakhong then toward Sangakpham, Laipham Khunou, Khurai Lairkyengbam Leikai, Upakthong, Khurai Chaithabi Leirak, Ukhrul road, Khurai Sajor Leikai, Thoidingjam Leikai, Lamlong Bazar, Dinku road and after passing through Chingmeirong Bazar converged at the originating point at Thangmeiband Thau Ground where a public meeting was held.
In the discussion cum public meeting, MLA RK Anand graced as chief guest, president of the AMADA head office, Padmani Leima as president.
Medical Superintendent of RIMS, Y mohen, deputy superintendent of excise A Kiran, assistant director of youth affairs and sports T Purnachandra, information and broadcast and finance secretary, Jumitul Ulmah E-Manipur, Moulana Ayub Ahmed attended as guest of honours.
Chief functionaries of many social organizations and local clubs also attended as special invitees of the function.
Many youths of the state are drowning in the sea of intoxicated items.
This is the main problem, the state is facing.
When the people irrespective of old or young remain far away from these intoxicated items, the state will become a society of healthy and wealthy people.
On the occasion, AMADA also distributed its annual excellence award "Athouba 2009".The award was conferred to the Pheiroijam Rani, staff nurse RIMS who had also recently honoured with Florence Nightingale award.
