Imphal, June 26 2009:
Manipur DGP Y Joykumar has said today that various kinds of human trafficking have been prevalent in the state causing many problems.
Many children have also been trafficked outside the state by various religion organisations in the name of religion and to give them education.
The DGP was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a one-day workshop on human trafficking organised by the United NGO Mission (UNM) at Hotel Nirmala today.
Joykumar said that instead of sending the children outside the state for their education, it would be appreciable if they were made to study at their place by setting up educational institutions that will also contribute to the growth of the religion.
He also said that the parents have also first to consider in which institution and what are their children going to study before sending them outside the state while also saying that family has greater role to play in checking human trafficking.
DGP Joykumar also refused to accept that ethnic/armed conflict as the cause of human trafficking.
The occasion was also graced by UNMM Chairman Rev Dr Tamthing Ruivanao; Director of SANLAAP Kolkata Indrani Sinha, and member of Indian Association of Child Rights Jayotsana Chaterjee as the president; and guests of honour.
