Seized bird traps destroyed

Forest Kakching Range has destroyed and burnt numbers of bird trap seized from different parts of Thoubal and Kakching District at the campus of its office situated at Kakching Lamkhai.
Range Officer, Kakching N Munal said that about 60 bird traps have been burnt to ash today and added that the bird trap were seized while conducting a drive to check and stop illegal trapping of birds in different parts of Kakching District.
People have now almost stopped using bird traps following the drive in the Thoubal and Kakching district which is a major achievement of the department, said N Munal and added that the public are now gradually started to understand their role and responsibilities in protecting birds and other species.
He further cautioned the public not to indulge in such illegal act since it attracts penalty of three years in jail or Rs 25,000 fine or both, if caught by the officials of title Forest Department.
He also sought cooperation from the public to show love and sympathy to migratory birds who have flown here for far off places as their numbers has kept on decreasing as the year past.
Honorary Wildlife Warden Thoubal Waikhom Ramachandra, BO Pallel Md Salaouddin, Forester Md Keramuddin and staff of Kakching Range also joined in destroying the bird traps today.
