One Md Fajiruddin of Hiyangthang Tarahei Kongjin has appealed to the authority concerned to take up appropriate actions against a Sub Inspector identified as Tiken of Imphal West commando, currently posted at Wangoi PS, for allegedly assaulting his son on charge of participating in Diwali dice game or Lagao yesterday night.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Md Fajiruddin said that his son, Zaheer Khan (25) is a VDF personnel and is presently posted at Lamphel Court complex and he is presently on medical leave to poor health.
He claimed that yesterday night, at around 8.30, his son along with some relatives, went for a health, check up at the residence of one Dr Salim of Samurou who prescribed some medicines for Zaheer Khan.
The father added that he also handed over Rs 10,000 in cash to his son to use in case of any emergency as well as to buy the medicine.
Fajiruddin continued mat after Zaheer failed to find the medicine from the pharmacies located in Samurou area, he along with the relatives went to Hiyangthang Maning Leikai area.
After reaching the said location, they found some people playing Diwali dice game/ Lagao in the area and also noticed that all the pharmacies in the area had closed.
In the meantime, an Imphal West commando Gypsy arrived at the scene and arrested Zaheer and two other people allegedly for playing Lagao.
He continued that Zaheer tried to explain that he had come to just buy some medicines from the pharmacy and he had nothing to do with the Diwali game and even showed the doctor's prescription.
But without listening to him (Zaheer), SI Tiken (who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol) who was in a civil dress forcefully shoved Zaheer and the two others inside the Gypsy.
Fajiruddin continued that SI Tiken took them to a paddy field and also took away Rs 9,500 from the possession of his son.
The SI also threatened to kill Zaheer and pointed his small arms at his forehead and mouth, Fajiruddin claimed and added that the SI even forced his son to confess that he is taking part in the dice game.
Later his son was taken to Wangoi PS and charged with taking part in gambling/dice game.
The father conveyed that soon after getting information about the incident, he went to Wangoi PS but was not allowed to enter the police station for more than one and a half hour.
Finally he informed their focal elected member after which his son was released by paying Rs 2,000.Zaheer is presently undergoing treatment at RIMS with bruise marks all over his body due to the torture of SI Tiken inside the police station, Fajiruddin claimed.
He lamented that the act of SI is totally against the statement made by CM N Biren on Manipur Police Raising Day Celebration regarding the improvement of the relation between the people and the police and appealed to the authority concerned to take up necessary actions against the SI at the earliest.
He also appealed to dismiss Tiken from service immediately.
If the authority concerned fails to take up necessary steps, various agitation will be launched with the help of the local clubs and CSOs, he warned.
