World Soil Health Day observed

"World Soil Health Day" which was observed by Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), United Nation every year on December 5, was also observed by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Thoubal under Agriculture department, Govt of Manipur at the campus of the KVK, Khangabok today with the theme "Be The Solution To Soil Pollution".
The observance function was attended by Pradhan Khangabok Part-II GP S Opendro Singh as Chief Guest, Director Agriculture Department GoM Ph Rajendra Singh as functional President while in-charge KVK Thoubal & Head Senior Scientist N Tomba Singh and SMS Plant protection Dr M Thoithoi Singh attended the observance function as Guests of honour.
During the function, many speakers spoke in detail regarding the manner in which the quality of soil has been degraded due to pollution and the remedial measures to make the soil fertile.
They also appealed the public to stop polluting of soil with their irresponsible usage of pesticides, insecticides and other health hazard substances.
Later, about 400 Soil Health Card were distributed to farmers whose soil have already been tested.
Chandel: World Soil Health Day cum training on Soil Health Management was conducted today at KVK, Chandel on the theme "Be the Solution to Soil Pollution" which aims to raise awareness of the importance of soil quality for the well-being of human, food security and ecosystems.
The programme was attended by Mahesh Chaudhari (IAS) Assistant Commissioner, Chandel; Dr K Sonamani Singh, ACTO (Agril Engg); Dr Kl Levis Chongloi, ACTO (Agronomy); Th Motilal Singh, ACTO (Agril Extn); Dr A Ameeta Devi, ACTO (Animal Science); and D Doungel, TO (CA) of KVK Chandel.
During the programme, 500 soil health cards were also distributed to the farmers.
Dr Kl Levis Chongloi, ACTO (Agronomy) attended the programme as the resource person on Soil Health Management training.
