Lamka, June 26 2013:
The Churachandpur Autonomous District Council has today unanimously passed a resolution to demand full implementation of 6th Schedule in the district sans any local adjustment.
The ADC also affirmed to oppose the oil exploration exercise as the MoU signed by the Government and the private company lack their consent as well as that of the indigenous people.
Eleven agendas were tabled today during the sixth sitting of the Council since the ADC was revived some years back.
Among others, the ADC resolved to ask the State Government to fill the 273 vacant posts under various departments of the council and to create new post wherever there is a need; to initiate necessary efforts to transfer all land records of 60-Sagang and 98-Torbung, both of which were under the jurisdiction of Churachandpur district administration, to Churachandpur from Bishnupur district.
The most decisive resolutions however were on the contentious issue of 6th schedule and oil exploration exercise in the district, wherein the ADC resolution is clearly expected to annoy Imphal.
The ADC is of the opinion that the power devolved to them is far from the peoples' expectation.
The same is to the 3rd amendment of 2010.Hence they decided to work for realizing the 6th schedule in its totality, sans any form of adjustment.
Notably, the ADC members have recently met a good number of leaders at New Delhi on various issues.
They have also stood united to declare that the MoU signed by the Government and Ms Jubilant Oil Company was without their knowledge or consent.
Besides, they were of the opinion that it lacks free, informed and prior consent of the indigenous people.
Unless the ADC and the public were taken into confident, the oil exploration exercise will be as good as an exercise to exploit and manipulate the indigenous people, they said.
