Imphal, February 23 2017:
Asserting that peaceful co-existence and cohesive bonding amongst the different communities would be maintained unless Congress party in the State flourishes, Chief Minister O Ibobi accused BJP of being a communal political party and cautioned the people to be aware of its divisive policies.
He was speaking at a public meeting held as part of the flag hoisting ceremony of Thounaojam Shyamkumar, INC candidate in 7-Andro Assembly Constituency at Yairipok Yambem Aided High School ground today.
The public meeting cum flag hoisting ceremony was organised by Andro Block Congress Committee.
Addressing the gathering, Ibobi recalled that after getting independence from the hands of British colonial rule, Congress party became India's dominant political party which is based on secularism.
He maintained that Congress party regards followers of Christianity, Islam, Hindu and other religions equally.
Peaceful co-existence and harmony amongst the different communities would continue as long as there is Congress rule, he said.
The CM said those Congress defectors who have been charging the Government with corruption are devoid of political ideology and principles.
They joined other political parties after they realised that they are no longer sought by the people in the party, he said.
Terming all the defectors as opportunists, he mentioned that such self-centred politicians and communal political party would find no place in the hearts of the people.
Decrying the claim made by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal recently that National Sports University would be constructed in the State if BJP forms the next Government, Ibobi asked whether BJP would not set up the university if they fails to form the Government.
He pointed out that Manipur is the leading Northeast State which produces maximum number of films in a year but BJP Government at the Centre preferred to set up Film and Television Institute in Arunachal Pradesh which produces films much less than Manipur.
This clearly indicates that BJP is playing dirty politics on sports and culture, he contended.
Claiming that BJP has been trying to fool people with false promises which would not succeed, the CM said that BJP deserved to be rooted out from the State for misleading the people.
MLA of Sugnu AC K Ranjit, MLA of Nambol AC N Loken, MPCC secretaries S Manaobi and L Saratchandra, president of Andro Block Congress Committee Md Soukat Ali, Chairperson of Andro Nagar Panchayat Leisungbam Lukhoi Singh, Pradhans and Members of Tulihal and Tumukhong Moirangpurel GP and many Congress workers attended the flag hoisting ceremony.
