46th Death Anniversary of Guru Angouba held at MDU

The 46th Death Anniversary of Guru Thokchom Angouba who was also known as Ustad Angouba was held at MDUC Hall in Yaiskul today.
Organized by the celebration committee of the late guru, the function was attended by the Retd Senior Lecturer of SSBMD Government Music College, Moirangthem Kumar Singh as Chief Guest and Chairman of the Committee, B Jayantakumar Sharma as the President.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest enumerated the works of the late guru who was a pioneer in uplifting the trend of music and arts in the state.
He said "music along with other performing arts were not very popular at the time of this Guru, artists were not given any recognition or paid for their performances, during which the musician played a key role in making a revolutionary change in the field of arts and music" .
Thokchom Angou Singh was born in 1913 to Thokchom Ganga Singh and Konsam Ningol Maipakpi Devi of Hiruhanba Leikai in Yaiskul.
As a music enthusiast since his childhood, he grew up to be a specialized tabla player for which he was honored with 'Badak Siromani' by the Manipur Sahitya Parishad after his death.
He later died in the year 1968 .
