Prof H Nandakumar appointed Manipur University's Vice chancellor

Imphal, August 17 2011: Manipur University's Professor of Physics and present Acting Vice chancellor Prof Hidangmayum Nandakumar Sarma has been appointed as Vice Chancellor of the varsity with immediate effect.

a circular by the President of India, in her capacity as the Visitor (Manipur University) has confirmed appointment of Prof Nandakumar as the VC, informed a statement issued by the varsity's Registrar N Lokendra Singh.

Born on March 1, 1947 at Uripok Ahanthem Leikai, Prof Nandakumar is at present the senior most professor of Manipur University.

having graduated from DM College (then under Gauhati University) with 1st Class Honours in Physics, Prof Nandakumar completed post-graduate studies at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in 1968 and served as lecturer at Manipur College for a brief period.

It is informed that award of JRF, CSIR and later SRF, CSIR took him back to BHU to pursue research work, followed by another scholarship in 1972 paving the way for a stint at the University of London during which he worked at the prestigious Rutherford Laboratory and the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Research Establishment.
