Imphal, May 12 2021:
M Asnikumar Singh, State spokesperson, BJP Manipur Pradesh has said that the Government under Chief Minister N Biren Singh is doing everything in its capacity and beyond to fight COVID-19 .
In a statement, he said the people, however, also have a huge role to play in Manipur's collective fight against the second wave.
"It is very frustrating to see people taking everything so casually and not adhering to the Government guidelines, which is meant for the safety of everyone," he said.
He asserted that many of the people do not come forward for testing when initial symptoms appear.
They come to hospital when the infection gets worse.
This lack of civic sense is leading to the double digit deaths in the last few days, he said.
"It is high time that the people of this State come forward for testing, isolate themselves if they test positive, consult physicians on phone, video chat as soon as they test positive (even if they don't show any sort of symptoms or show very mild symptoms), seek immediate help so that the need for rushing to the hospitals when symptoms worsen is avoided," Asnikumar said.
He also accused the Congress of creating confusion among the public about the vaccine.
"It is highly unfortunate to see the Congress party use such situations to create confusion and attack the Government rather than joining the collective fight that we all have been fighting.
First, they created confusion and fear among the people regarding the indigenous vaccine, something which we as Indians ought to be proud of.
Now, they are busy attacking and criticising our Government on the handling of the second wave," he said.
It is high time people realise the true colours of the Congress.
It's been more than a year since the pandemic started.
If they actually cared for the people of this State, they should have joined the fight against the pandemic hand in hand with the Government.
This is what responsible and empathetic Oppositions do, he said.
"But the words 'responsible, 'empathy' do not exist in the vocabulary of the Congress.
They live by one and one motto only: 'to exploit difficult situations that people face for their own gains'.
This is what they have lived by since 7 decades and it will be wishful thinking if we think that they will change anytime soon," said Asnikumar.
