Jiribam, September 03 2019:
Refuting the reported 'mismanagement' of funds and 'inferior' quality of toilets constructed under the Swachh Bharat Mission to make Jiribam open defecation free, contractor concerned has clarified that he had oversaw the construction works himself and the toilets were built following all norms and standards.
Speaking to media persons at Jiri News Network Conference Hall today, the contractor refuted reports that the toilets were constructed with bamboo splits (wachet).
It may be noted that toilets at Jakuradhor in Jiribam were found constructed with bamboos and GI sheets when a team of journalists visited houses of two individuals.
The locals and families concerned had claimed that they were provided not enough materials to construct the toilets and they even dug ground themselves for the toilets.
Claiming that there were no irregularities in the construction of the toilets, the contractor said that he is ready to reconstruct the toilets again if there is any.
He further claimed that about 26 toilets were constructed at areas under at Hilghat GP after the beneficiaries who originally hailed from Boroikhal, Sabhughat and Babukhal were found moved to Hilghat GP area.
Concerned individuals and authorities may inspect the toilets, he said.
