Imphal, August 31 2019:
Rohan Philem, a 23 year old resident of Moirang who made multiple solo cycle trips across the Nation, carrying different messages in the recent past is now embarking on a journey advocating equal treatment and asylum to mentally challenged people who are being ignored by families and society.
Speaking to media at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul today, Rohan along with a group of like-minded individuals urged the State Government to set up mental asylum for the mentally challenged people and homeless persons.

He claimed that there are around 3,000 mentally challenged people in the State and many of them are ignored by their families and the society.
Rohan who made multiple stupendous solo cycling feats, including the trip from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and India Gate (Delhi) to Kangla Western Gate (Imphal) spreading messages of humanity and pollution-free environment, said 'disappointment/dejection' over his failure to keep Dung Dung, a mentally challenged person, in a mental and spiritual home had encouraged him to embark on the newly found journey.
It may be mentioned that Dung Dung is known in Facebook world as a person who has genuine love for people and takes part in social movement/cause.
He is always seen at public events.
Every year, he is seen paying tributes to martyrs at Kekrupat on The Great June Uprising.
Rohan informed that he has been looking after Dung Dung since the past few days after he found him on roadside.
He took him to a mental and spiritual home with the intent to rehabilitate him.
He was 'disappointed' in finding that Dung Dung was 'not fit' to stay in the mental and spiritual home, said Rohan.
Noting that every human being has the right to live, Rohan lamented that there is not a single mental asylum in the State where ignored mentally challenged persons can take shelter and rehabilitate.
While urging the Govt to set up at least one mental asylum in the State, he appealed all to treat mentally challenged persons with love and care and extend every possible help.
It may be mentioned that videos of Rohan feeding Dung Dung food in a hotel and taking him to hospital went viral on Facebook recently.
