Imphal, August 25 2013:
A cloth trader hailing from Bihar has been detected possessing voter slip with local surname inscribed in the document by volunteers of Joint Committee Inner Line Permit System Students' Wing.
Speaking to newspersons at the SUK office this afternoon, Students' Wing convenor M Angamba said an awareness campaign on ILPS was conducted at Pallel Maning Leikai this morning.
As the Committee volunteers examined Pallel market at the end of the day-long campaign half the market building was found to be occupied by non-local traders inspite of the fact that the said site was supposed to be allotted to local women entrepreneurs.
When the non-locals were asked to produce identification documents, an individual from Bihar State was found possessing voter slip by the name of Huirem Jaleshwar Prasad.
Jaleshwar, who reportedly came to Pallel about five years back, also revealed that both his wife (Indu) and son (Ghanashyam) also possess voter slips bearing the Huirem surname, said Angamba.
Demanding that the voter slip issuing authority clarify on how Jaleshwar and his family have been enrolled in the electoral list with local surname, the convenor said failure to provide convincing statement on the issue might constrain the Committee to launch intense agitation.
