Imphal, August 25 2013:
Noting that Manipur stands to lose huge portion of its territory when the ongoing border fencing work has been completed, Senior Citizens for Society demanded that the fencing activities be halted immediately and resurvey of the border areas be carried out.
Holding a news conference on the border fencing issue at its Nagamapal RIMS Road office today, Society president N Binoy and secretary advocate Khaidem Mani were unanimous in demanding that both the Central and State Govt take immediate measures to protect Manipur's territory.
Expressing that there should be no reason for the Centre to remain silent on the serious issue along with demanding that the Govt provide relevant details including the agency, if any, executing the border fencing work, Binoy regretted the issue not figuring during Parliamentary discussions in the ongoing session.
The president also proposed that a special State assembly session be convened to discuss the issue and adopt resolution not to cede even an inch of
Manipur's land.
Commenting on the issue, Khaidem Mani cautioned that fallout of manipur's traditional border areas falling into Myanmar territory consequent to the border fencing could be disastrous for wounds are yet to heal for the Kabo Valley partition decades back.
Both also suggested that resurvey work along the disputed areas should be based on historical factors.
