Imphal, July 18 2020:
Regarding the distribution of fertilizers to the needy farmers, Director Agriculture Department L Vanchhong has clarified that through the concerned District Agriculture Officers, urea fertilizers are being distributed to farmers since June 16.In a statement, L Vanchhong also stated that lifting of urea fertilizer is done as per allocation for each State by the Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizer, Govt of India.
He said that under the guidance of the State Agriculture Minister, the department is bringing in sufficient quantities of urea fertilizer in the State despite the shortage in production of the fertilizer in many States due to the nationwide lockdown during the peak production season.
The distribution is carried out even on all general holidays including Sundays by maintaining social distancing norms, however, land documents are required to ascertain the exact requirement of fertilizers as excess can lead to crop loss/damage, he said.
Bringing land documents does not lead to any loss of time to the farmers and urea fertilizers are being provided to all farmers including patta less farmers as per modalities developed by the Department.
He went on to say that as the State is fortunate to receive abundant rainfall at present and coupled with the timely availability of the fertilizer, the Department is expecting a good harvest.
