Education Minister launches Knowledge-Yan All-in-One

Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam on Saturday launched Knowledge-Yan, popularly known as K-Yan, All-in-One at State Project Office, Samagra Shiksha, Manipur, Babupara, Imphal.
It was organised by Samagra Shiksha, Manipur.
Speaking at the event, Radheshyam said that the project is being carried out as a part of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Programme for qualitative enhancement of school education.
K-Yan is an integrated community computer that functions as a computer, projector, and television developed by Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in collaboration with IL and FS Education.
Distributing the K-Yan to the Zonal Education Officers of Manipur, he said that though technology is highly advanced in today's world, it still cannot replace the human beings.
He expressed that technology cannot substitute teachers but technology in the hands of great teachers can transform the education system.
The project will surely help improve the education scenario of the Government schools of the State.
He said that the initiative will make education more interesting, interactive and enhance young minds.
The Minister also informed that the Project Approval Board of MHRD has approved 224 schools for providing ICT Component.
224 schools include 132 secondary schools and 92 primary schools.
Training for the teacher on how to use the K-Yan will be conducted.
It may be noted that K-Yan is a technology platform which is All-in-One device for a smart classroom.
Component under K-Yan includes projector, laptop, speaker, display screen, in- built interactivity; E-Content and DVD player.
Built-in web cameras and microphones also allow the K-Yan to facilitate distance learning and interaction across communities, regardless of geographic locations.
The K-Yan can also be used as a server, reducing the cost of establishing PC-based learning centres in schools.
It can simultaneously be used as a computer, thereby improving overall operational and administrative efficiency within schools.
K-Yan supports learning in English and 18 local languages and comes pre-programmed with educational curriculum and provides and immersive teaching-learning platform for students and teachers.
Commissioner Education (S), T Ranjit Singh, Director, Education (S), Th Kirankumar Singh, officials concerned and teachers attended the programme.
Demonstration on the use K-Yan was also shown during the function.
