'Save life, Not money' campaign against pathetic PMGSY road launched by Tusom villagers

Villagers of Tusom village, Ukhrul launched "Save life, Not money" campaign against the pathetic PMGSY road in Ukhrul district.
During a brief interaction with the villagers of Tusom village, Chairman of Tusom Village Development Committee Graceson expressed how the villagers contemplate the idea and conceive the concept of Save Life, Not Money campaign.
The chairman said that the campaign was introduced after the incident of Ashok Leyland truck road accident on September 11, which was a result of dilapidated roads, high slope and narrow road at the rocky portion between Challou and Tusom village.

The truck fell in Challou river and was completely damaged although the driver is now out of danger, reports our correspondent.
Graceson mentioned that due to sub-standard PMGSY road in the rural areas, the people living in the interior villages are risking their life while in travelling.
He further mentioned that many untold road accident are occurring frequently in the region due to the deplorable conditions.
Meanwhile, VDC secretary Chinaorar Vashum explained that the main objectives of the campaign is to ensure safety and reduce the risk of road accident and to speed up construction work.
He further mentioned that they will organise village to village campaign in the district to raise awareness and to expose the ground reality of the PMGSY road conditions to all the concerned for immediate intervention.
He stated that Tusom village has repeatedly approached the contractor concerned and the department concerned as well demanding for renovation of PMGSY road.
The matter was also highlighted to Works Minister in 2018 during his visit in the village.
So far, no positive action has taken up although the Work Minister physically inspected and saw the pathetic PMGSY road.
Save Life, Not Money campaign is not targeted to any individual or department but to improve the condition of roads in the rural areas.
Notably, the inter-villages road that connects the interior villages of Ukhrul district were constructed under PMGSY project implemented by MSRRDA.
The campaign will focus on organizing awareness programme to understand PMGSY guidelines by inviting expert and also to understand the roles and responsibilities of villages in extending co-operation to the executing agencies to accelerate construction work.
