SENIOR MANIPUR People's Party (MPP) leader, MLA Okram Joy has said that after more than 2000 years of existence as an independent and sovereign nation, Manipur got enslaved by the Britishers, known then as white Sahebs, and now also Manipur continues to be enslaved by the black Sahebs.
MLA Joy was speaking at the opening of an office cum one-day political conference of MPP held at Lamlai bazar today.
The senior leader further said that if the people of Manipur must live an active life, a big regional party becomes essential.
The national parties won't be able to understand the local problems.

He said, Tripuris have disappeared in Tripura and Sikkimese are extinct in Sikkim.
In order to prevent the people of Manipur from facing the same fate, it is necessary for the people to solidly support the regional party.
What the MPP desires is a change in Manipur, MLA Joy said.
Pointing out that there are designated camps of NSCN (IM) in Ukhrul, Senapati and Tamenglong districts of Manipur, which ought to be located in Nagaland only, Joy asked what the DCs concerned were doing.
Accepting moral responsibility for this, the Congress led government in Manipur must resign, he said.
He criticised the two Lok Sabha MPs of Manipur.
He said, MP Dr T Meinya was dozing off in the Lok Sabha while Outer Manipur MP Manicharanamei was speaking to snap the integrity of Manipur.
MLA Dr Ng Bijoy spoke on the topic "The role of MPP in a new Manipur".
He said, in bringing new changes and development in Manipur, quality education, good health, pure drinking water, etc are necessary.
Economic sustenance, good road communication, equal development in both hills and valley are also necessary.
The MPP has been working towards achieving these goals.
Former Union Minister Th Chaoba spoke on the achievements of the MPP during the last 20 years.
He said, MPP is a regional party which will fight the all India party.
There is no chance for the Congress to win in the coming election.
The people of Manipur are suffering in all aspects today because of having voted for it, Chaoba said adding, the price of rice has reached Rs 22 soon after the harvest season Prof N Mohendro spoke on the theme "Liberty and equality".
He affirmed that it is the people who would bring about new change in Manipur.
"First of all, I have to be changed.
Unless I am changed, no change can be brought about in Manipur," he said.
So many unwanted things are happening in the state since the Congress government does not create a way for future, Prof Mohendro said.
President of MPP Dr L Chandramani said, the party has been trying to bring about a change in Manipur so as to put an end to all the crises dogging the people of the state.
Unless the people bring a change in Manipur, no change can ever be made, Dr Chandramani said.
On the occasion, the former candidate of NCP in Lamlai AC,Kh Ibomcha along with his supporters were accorded a warm welcome by the party president on their joining MPP.
Dr Chandramani also opened a new office of the party at Lamlai bazar.
Over 4,000 people of Lamlai AC attended the conference.
