Imphal, July 24 2017:
Members of Meetei Mayek TET Supplementary Successful Candidates’ Association held a sit-in protest at Chingamakha Hao Ground today demanding the Govt to recruit them as teachers .
Even after having passed the TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) as well as the Supplementary Test, they are not recruited as teachers, the protesters said and warned that they are prepared for further agitation if their demand is not met .
The protest had earlier been planned to be held at the Keishampat Leimajam Leikai Community Hall but the police dispersed the protesters saying that they cannot congregate there and asked them to take the protest somewhere else .
President of the association, Loukham Sanalungba told media persons that in an effort to develop the Manipuri language, the Bengali Script has already been replaced by the Meetei Mayek in schools.
Even matric exam is conducted in this script and is studied upto the XII standard .
The Govt conducted a test known as TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) in 2013.For those who cleared it, the Govt further conducted a Supplementary Test citing lack of criteria.
But, the Govt has not yet recruited any candidate who has cleared this test and this can only be seen as an attempt to suppress the language and the script, he said .
After a meeting between the CM and the authority concerned, the CM had already given the instruction to start the process of teacher intake in consultation with the Education Minister.
But, when the association did not get any satisfactory response on two occasions from the Education Minister on Miyamgi Numit in May and July, the association decided to launch the protest, he said .
He further added that it was unfortunate that the police dispersed the protesters from the original venue.
The Govt is supposed to listen to the grievances of the public.
The Govt must recruit the successful candidates as soon as possible.
Otherwise, the association is fully prepared to launch further agitation, he added .
Up till now, there are around 1700 candidates who have cleared the supplementary test .
“The Assam Govt has announced that it will recruit 16,000 teachers in 2018.But our Govt seems to undervalue the candidates and it is rather unfortunate that the successful candidates cannot discharge their duties as teachers,” he said.
