Body escorted back to Moreh

Post mortem of the 16-year-old girl student Nengneingah Khongsai who was shot dead by her alleged boyfriend at Gilgan village, Moreh was conducted at JNIMS morgue today in the presence of the Duty Magistrate concerned .
A team of police led by SP Tengnoupal S Ibomcha escorted the mortal remains up to Moreh.
Upon reaching the border town, a large number of school students offered floral tributes to the mortal remains and took out a rally up to the residence of the deceased .
Speaking to media persons, J Khongsai, president of Khongsai Inpi Tengnoupal district termed the killing of the girl student as an inhuman act .
He appealed to security personnel deployed in Moreh to keep vigil and ensure that such heinous crimes against women do not occur in future .
On the other hand, the accused in the killing Sasat Haokip (21) s/o Thanglet Haokip of Chavangphai village, Moreh was produced before the Court today .
The Court remanded the accused to five days police custody till July 28 for investigation of the case .
Meanwhile the North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF) has strongly condemned the murder of the 16-year-old girl student .
NEDF in a press release demanded that the armed groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) should be kept under the supervision of the authority concerned .
They should not be given freedom of movement to avoid such brutal killings in future.
The armed groups should also be given proper counselling and training to stop crime against women, it said .
It appealed to the authority concerned to take the killing case seriously and ensure justice to the victim's family .
People for Human Rights and Climate Change (PHRCC) also deeply regretted the brutal killing of the girl student .
In a press release, PHRCC said killing of civilians in the State has increased tremendously this year .
It urged the State Government to award befitting punishment to the killer as per the law.
