Imphal, July 24 2017:
Even though Moreh Hospital is said to have improved considerably, many questions still linger about its capability and efficiency to cater to health care requirements of the border town and people living in remote areas close to Myanmar border .
It still remains a big question whether Moreh Hospital can effectively treat people suffering from Malaria, Dengue etc .
Although it is said that medicines are made available at the hospital at cheaper prices, pharmacists were reluctant to give a direct answer when they were enquired how cheaper were the medicines from the MRPs .
There is an Ultra Sound machine but it is not clear whether the machine is functional or not as there is no operator .
Nonetheless, the X-Ray machine is operational and the labour room is also functional .
The hospital has also facilities for urine RE, blood RE, widal, typhoid, sputum AFB, blood group, blood sugar.
HBsAg, HGV, VDRL tests etc.
There is also an ambulance which can take critical patients to Imphal .
State Malaria Officer Dr Gojendro said that increased cases of Dengue and Japanese Encephalitis may be detected this year .
Compared to last year, Dengue cases were detected in the State much earlier.
Although JE cases were detected only in October last year this year both Dengue and JE cases were detected in the month of June.
This may be attributed to early arrival of rain in abundant volume.
Moreover, Moreh is visited by a large number of people from different parts of the State including Churachandpur, Kakching, Imphal East and Imphal West where Dengue and JE cases have been already detected .
Notably, 51 positive cases of Dengue were reported from Moreh in 2007 .
Even though Malaria is believed to have been eradicated from Manipur, concerned authorities have been still taking precautionary measures .
All patients showing symptoms of fever brought to Moreh Hospital are subjected to microscopic examination using rapid diagnostic kit in order to find out whether they are suffering from Malaria or not .
Although intensive precautionary measures were taken up at Moreh town against Dengue since March last year under an instruction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, no such precautionary measures were taken up in border areas.
As such, all these efforts have yielded very little positive results.
