The 10-day long observation of the Renewable Energy Day to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of the Country, Rajiv Gandhi concluded with a function held at Shanker Talkies, Lamphel, organized by the Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA).
The observation of the day under the aegis of the MANIREDA commenced from August 20 last, the birth day of former Prime Minister with several functions throughout the last 10 days.
The concluding function held today was graced by chairman of the MANIREDA, principal secretary A N Jha, IAS as chief guest and director of science and technology and information technology, Utamchand Laishram as president.
Speaking on the occasion, Jha said despite its small size, Manipur is not left by the impact of global warming and impacts of environmental degradation.
Drought occurring this year is a clear instant.
In the midst of drastic environmental changes, the globe is facing power crisis.
So extraction and generation of renewable energy is the only means for long term measure to fight with power crisis.
He also said that considering the power shortage facing by the state MANIREDA will start taking up various projects based on renewable energy from biomass energy, micro hydel power generation project etc.
On the occasion, prizes of various competitions like painting competition, essay competitions held during the 10-day long observation were also distributed.
