Over 60,000 offer to give up LPG subsidy

With more and more people realizing that the subsidy given on LPG is meant for economically weaker sections of the society, particular those belonging to BPL category, 66130 LPG consumers of the State have offered to surrender subsidies given on LPG refills.
According to information received from IOC's Imphal Divisional Retail Sales Office, the total number of the State's active LPG consumers as on January 17 is 3,23,435.Out of them, 66130 have offered not to enjoy LPG subsidy any more.
It is reported that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has defined criteria about who and who would be eligible for enjoy-ing subsidy on LPG refills.
As decided by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, people/families whose annual income is Rs 10 lakh or above are not eligible to enjoy LPG subsidy.
In another word, only people whose annual income is less than Rs 10 lakh are eligible for enjoying LPG subsidy.
The Ministry has already instructed oil marketing companies to start implementing its decision.
As such, LPG consumers whose annual income is above 10 lakh would not be given any subsidy.
He/she would not get any subsidy on LPG refills if the annual income of his/her spouse is above Rs 10 lakh.
All LPG consumers whose annual incomes or the annual incomes of their spouses are above Rs 10 lakh have been asked to submit statements of their incomes to their respective distributors.
LPG consumers have also been asked to submit their Aadhar numbers to their respective distributors so that the subsidy given on each refill is transferred to their bank accounts.
It is said that LPG consumers who fail to submit their Aadhar numbers may not get any subsidy from April.
