Imphal, April 10 2019:
Taking a jab at Congress and BJP for making blunders on several issues concerning the State, including giving away of Kabaw valley to Myanmar and the passing of Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 in the Lok Sabha, Manipur People's party (MPP) has sought the support of the people in reviving the regional political force so as to solve the chronic issues prevailing in the State while seeking the public's assistance in making the State economically independent as well.
Addressing the gathering at his flag hoisting ceremony held at COSMO Lampak, Top Siphai, Laxmi Bazar today, Oinam Jugindro, who is the MPP candidate in the ensuing Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency election, alleged that both the Congress and the BJP have made different kinds of blunders in the past when it comes to the interest of Manipur.
Jugindro accused the Congress leader and the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for giving away Kabaw valley to Myanmar in 1953 and claimed that the portion of land given away is not much smaller than the total area of present Manipur and has abundant resources.
Conveying that All India Congress, United Naga Integration Council and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee signed an agreement which stated that the Congress does not consider Naga integration movement as anti-party, anti-National, anti-State and unconstitutional, on August 4, 1972, Jugindro observed that the said agreement was the beginning of the threats to the integrity of the State and the perilous impact of the same agreement is felt even today.
Meanwhile, the BJP Government signed the Bangkok declaration on June 14, 2001 and a clause inserted in the said declaration plunged the whole State into chaos with people rising against the declaration which threatened the territorial integrity of the Manipur, he recalled.
The BJP Government again signed the Framework Agreement on August 3, 2015 without revealing any details about the pact.
The non-disclosure of the agreement has been creating a strong apprehension in the minds of the people till date, he remarked.
Jugindro further stated that the BJP then introduced the CAB 2016 in the Parliament and passed the same in the Lok Sabha on January 8 this year.
The same political party is now openly rooting for the Bill and has even inserted it as one of its points in its manifesto maintaining that CAB will be brought back if it is voted to power, he noted.
Asking the people if they should be giving votes to the Congress or the BJP which consistently work against the interest of the people, Jugindro said that it is high time to strengthen the regional parties to stand against the National political parties.
Seeking cooperation from all, he appealed all voters to cast their vote for him while claiming that he will highlight the issues prevailing in the State and fight against any evil/harmful policies and problems concerning the State.
Maintaining that he along with his party will give special focus on improving the State's economy and genuinely work for the welfare of the people if MPP wins the election in the Inner Manipur PC, the candidate went on to claim that many significant changes took place during the short tenure of MPP in the past.
He added that the former MP of the party, Yaima, had also courageously fought on many issues by making a strong voice in the Parliament.
MPP advisor A Amutombi, senior vice-president Y Bhim, vice president S Ibomcha and S Brojen graced the function as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
