Two suspected activists of the proscribed KCP have been reportedly killed by personnel of 18 Assam Rifles during an encounter which took place at Konaitang village, about 50 kms north-east of Tengnoupal police station in Chandel district at around 1.30 am yesterday.
The PRO ofAssam Rifles claimed that that the two slain militants belonged to the proscribed KCP.
In a statement, the PRO said that based on specific inputs about KCP cadres taking shelter at Konaithong village in Thoubal district with arms, Assam Rifles troops launched a search operation yesterday.
During the course of the search operation a gun fight ensued between the armed cadres and the Assam Rifles men, said the statement and added that two KCP cadres were killed.
One SLR and one AK-56 rifle along with ammunition were recovered, said the PRO and added that the bodies have been handed over to Tengnoupal police.
The bodies of the two slain activists were handed over by the personnel of 18 AR posted to Tengoupal to Tengoupal Police Station at around 10 am today.
According to the report submitted by the AR, one SLR, one magazine, nine rounds of ammunition and one AK-47 Rifles along with one magazine loaded with six ammunition have been recovered from the possession of the slain activists.
However, the AR personnel did not hand over the seized arms and ammunition to the police station at the time of handing over the bodies.
The identities of the slain persons have not yet been established.
Both of them are said to be around 28 to 30 years of age with pierced ear lobes and clad in olive green uniform.
One of them is said to be strongly built and fair complexioned while the other is lean and wheatish in complexion.
There were bullet marks on different parts of their bodies which would be kept in the custody of Tengnoupal Police Station for the night and the post-mortem could be conducted at Lilong PS tomorrow and deposit the same at RIMS mortuary for identification.
