Thoubal, August 29 2021: Nehru Yuva Kendra Thoubal in collaboration with Youth Volunteers Association (YVA) Pallel today observed National Sports Day (Rashtriya Khel Diwas) on the birth anniversary of (L) Major Dhyan Chand with Distribution of Sports Materials programme to volunteers of YVA.

The sports materials consisting of football boots and a few footballs were handed over to YVA Chairman, Romen Khuman and YVA secretary, Takhellambam Umakanta Singh by District Youth Officer, NYK Thoubal, Michael T Mate, said a statement of NYK Thoubal.

A friendly football match would also be organised at Pallel to encourage children to participate in physical activities as per the theme of National Sports Day.

Speaking on the occasion, Michael T Mate thanked the volunteers of YVA Pallel and Kakching Runners Kakching, who made the District Level Freedom Run 2.0 (Azadi ki Amrit Mahotsav) conducted yesterday in Kakching district a grand success.

He also highlighted that apart from taking part in the District Level Run, YVA Pallel and Kakching Runners, Kakching had also organised various Village Level Freedom Runs to spread the message of Fit India Movement & 75 years of India's Independence at multiple locations across Kakching District.

It may be mentioned that National Sports Day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, widely known as "The Hockey Wizard" and "The Magician" .
