Imphal, April 20 2012:
The Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) or Tangkhul Youth Council has served an explanation call to Kaphung Reisang who is the secretary of the NGO Kareilong on April 21 who should report in person at TMNL office.
The call was served in order to be heard on the points published in newspapers few days ago.
Kareilong, an NGO that works under Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) in Ukhrul district has been banned with effect from April 10 by the Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL), also known as Tangkhul Youth Council saying the NGO has been simply making money without rendering service to the needy people.
Kareilong is reportedly working in all the hill districts of Manipur.
The Tangkhul Youth Council's banning order of the NGO Kareilong was submitted to many top authorities related to the controlling of HIV/AIDS including the director general of National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), government of India and also to the chief secretary of Manipur and to the MACS project director.
The TMNL alleged that Kareilong has been requested time and again by the Tangkhul youth body to improve itself while carrying out its activities but ignored the request.
The TMNL said it had given a long time to the NGO to work in the interest of the needy people.
"The Kareilong failed to response positively and as the public increasingly dissatisfied and angry with the NGO, the matter of banning the NGO becomes imperative," said the Tangkhul Youth Council.
"Instead of amending its ill practices of making profit at the cost of human lives, Kareilong again encroaches upon the area of TMNL operation by spreading its tentacles of exploitation which made it more urgent and serious to ban the NGO," added the TMNL.
Citing a specific case, the TMNL alleged that the NGO had opened an office for Targeted Intervention (TI) project sponsored by Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) at Namrei village in Ukhrul district just for a week in the year 2010 and then remained shut till today.
The TMNL further alleged the Kareilong had carried out similar practices in Kamjong block, Kasom, Phungyar block, Jessami block and Central Ukhrul block earlier.
