Churachandpur, March 18 2015:
Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Churachandpur, visited the zonal water supply scheme at Patlen village in an attempt to streamline the ever receding water level for the benefit of the public, reports our correspondent.
The student body accompanied by several Kuki CSOs including KKL, TKSU, KSO and KIC, inspected the pipelines, treatment plant and the water sources of the plant during the visit.
The CSO leaders have requested the water supply authorities to plug all illegal connection and to ensure that the people receive water on alternate days.
The inspecting team found water leakage along the pipeline and illegal connections in some locations.
Another disturbing activity the team came across was the wide range of deforestation practised at the catchment area.
Signs of bush-fire were visible as close as two meters from the intake point while the peak from where the water originates lay barren.
The CSOs have, therefore, decided to organise a consultation programme to chalk-out their future objective to ensure sufficient availability of water throughout the year.
