Climate change discussed at village level

Ukhrul, March 18 2015:
Shomi Cluster Association with NERCORM P/IFAD, Ukhrul and PASDO conducted a two-day workshop to discuss the climate change and forest conservation at Sinakeithei village, Ukhrul, Mungchan Zimik reports.
Shomi Cluster Association, Western Tangkhul area deliberated on the contemporary issues of climate change, ecological and theological perspective during the two-day workshop.
The workshop was organised with an aim to develop a network for the conservation of ecosystem keeping in view the changing landscape of Ukhrul district.
Ukhrul district has been confronted with a shortening jhum cycle (down to 3-4 years).
The decline has a direct impact on soil fertility.
Tychicus Vashum, Project Manager, NERCORMP/IFAD, Ukhrul, alerted the villagers about the rapidly diminishing forest resources.
