Imphal, July 13 2017:
A team of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights comprising three members today visited two schools Mega Manipur School, Yaralpat and Shishu Nistha Niketan, Moirangkampu Shajab, which have been badly affected by flood and landslides .
According to a statement, Mega Manipur School reportedly remained closed at least for 20 days during the last three months as series of landslides along the road rendered vehicular movement impossible.
The school is situated adjacent to Chingkhei Ching, where works for laying of pipes for water supply of Mapithel Dam is being carried out .
Though there has been temporary efforts to clear the road, the lives of the school going children are not safe as impending landslide is looming large .
At the same time, Shishu Nistha Niketan school faced a grim road communication problem due to shrinking of about 100 metre long approach road of the school.
The school could not be reopenedwhich was due on July 10, after the summer break .
Taking suo motu cognizance of the situations, the MCPCR recommended the authority concerned and construction company engaged in laying pipes to immediately repair and open an alternative approach road of Mega Manipur School called Yaral Konjil .
It also recommended the repair of the shrunken road to Shishu Nistha Niketan school from Khudeng Shabi to Sagol Lambi in order to facilitate reopening of the school without any delay .
It also pointed out that about ten other schools in Chingkhei Ching are directly or indirectly affected by the mud and landslide.
