Girlfriend, two 'Cupid friends' miss 'suicide pact'

Thoubal, September 10 2012: In a shocking incident, a 15-year old boy ended his life while attempting a group suicide with his lover and two other friends.

However, the girl and the two friends could not dare to fulfil their suicide pact after seeing the frightening scene of the boy's suicide.

Interestingly, today (September 10) happens to be the World Suicide Prevention Day.

The incident occurred at around 2 am today in a Primary school at Thoubal Keibung.

The victim has been identified as Maibam Milan (15) son of Maibam Shyam of Thoubal Leishangthem Keli Makhong.

The girlfriend with whom the boy was attempting to commit suicide is said to be Manipuri Muslim from Thoubal Keibung Mayai Leikai while the two friends of Milan who were also part of the suicide attempt are from the same locality of Milan.

All of them are studying in Class VIII (Eight) at Leishangthem Keibung Primary School.

According to Milan's friends and local people, Milan and his girlfriend began their romance about two years back.

At first, the girl tried to persuade Milan to forget her since their union could not be possible as they belong to different communities and follow different religions.

However, Milan kept insisting and ultimately both fell in love with each other.

Since then they have been talking over the phones and sending SMSes.

When their romance came in the open, parents as well as locals of both Milan and the girl told them to end their relationship.

Moreover, the Headmaster of the school tried to dissuade them since complaints were coming about their affairs.

According to the two friends, Milan told them that he could not live without his girlfriend and he would commit suicide.

Upon that, they advised him to elope with his girlfriend and hide somewhere.

However, Milan rejected the idea saying that they could not hide for long and insisted on committing suicide.

While persuading Milan, the two friends told him that they will also commit suicide if he insisted on the ultimate choice and they agreed to spend the last night together.

The two friends further informed that they prepared suicide notes for themselves and Milan prepared for himself and his girlfriend.

Milan waked up them at night and all three of them went to their school where they met Milan's lover.

The girl told reporters that Milan pressed her to commit suicide since their union could not be possible and she agreed at last.

After some private talks, they came near Milan's two friends and told them to hand over their suicide notes to the elders.

However, the two friends insisted to commit suicide together and they arranged nooses for all of them at the verandah of the school.

First,Milan put the noose around his neck and tried to help his girlfriend in putting the noose around her neck.

The two friends also helped in adjusting the noose around her neck.

All of a sudden, Milan slipped from the chair he was standing on.

Seeing the tarrying scene of Milan struggling for his life, both the frightened friends took out the noose from her neck and tried to free Milan from the jaws of death.

When they could not remove the noose from the neck of Milan, they alarmed the local people, who rushed to the spot but could not save Milan.

Police were informed about the incident and later the body of Milan was picked up from the spot, the girl recalled.

Today morning, enraged locals of Thoubal Leishangthem gathered and conducted a public meeting.

However, timely arrival and action of police succeeded in persuading the enraged locals for talk table with the girlfriend and two friends of Milan at the police station.

After hearing the whole story from the two friends, the tension among the locals of Leishangthem cooled down.

Thoubal Police have registered a case in connection with the incident, but the body of Milan is still laying in the mortuary of JNIMS hospitals .
