'WY' tablets seized

Acting on a tip-off, BSF Intelligence Wing, Lunglei and CID (SB) of Mizoram Police launched a special joint operation in the general area of Betleham Veng, Aizawl.
During the operation, one Myanmar national who has been identified as Lalzawmliana (52), driver in Presbyterian Synod, Myanmar, s/o Upa Vanlallawma of Tahan Village, F Group was arrested along with 53 packets of Methamphetamine "WY" tablets worth around Rs 1.6 to 2.67 crores in the international market.
The tablets cost around Rs 21.37 to 37.41 lakhs at the border area, said a press release issued by BSF Public Relation Officer.
BSF spokesperson Satish Budakoti, DIG BSF Mizoram and Cachar, said that Lalzawmliana purchased the drugs from Manipur-Myanmar border town Tiao.
Lalzawmliana confessed that he was in need of a huge sum of money for treatment of his ailing mother.
He therefore, undertook this illegal trade.
WY tablet is a by product of precursor medicines like normal common cold and chest decongestion tablet Pseudoephedrine tab manufactured in India.
These are smuggled to and processed in Golden Triangle area and resmuggled to India.
The drug, when consumed, can keep a person working nonstop for about 48 hours without food and sleep.
The drug is said to be more popular with the high class society who consumes it as rave party drug.
Satish Budakoti further said that the operation was meticulously planned and well coordinated with the local police.
The apprehendee along with the seized drugs has been handed over to Aizawl PS for the initiation of legal actions as per the law of the land.
