Ibobi invokes power of writer's pen in bringing peace

Imphal, July 09 2014:
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Wednesday unveiled the a statue of the renowned Manipuri poet and writer Dr Lamabam Kamal at his native place Langthabal Kunja Mayai Leikai in Imphal West district.
The statue of 'Kaviratna' Dr Kamal has been erected at the Dr Kamal Literary Complex in Langthabal Kunja Leikai under the initiative of Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti (NSPS), Imphal.
Chief Minister O Ibobi attended the function as chief guest while Langthabal A/C MLA Karam Shyam and Prof Naorem Nabachandra, president of NSPS as functional president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibobi made a fervent appeal to all writers and scholars in the State to work and expose their creativities through writing novels, plays, poems and cinema scripts and give good message to the people that can help in bringing peace and harmony.

The Chief Minister acknowledged that culture and literature is the mirror of a society and said the highest work of literature cannot be kept concealed for long.
Reading literature of a particular community simply reveals its origin, tradition, culture and faith, Ibobi said while admitting that the real status of a society can be known through studying its literature.
Renowned poet/writer Dr Kamal and many literary personalities of the past made immense contributions development of Manipuri language and they are still the epitome of Manipuri literature, the Chief Minister said, and added that because of their contributions, the Manipuri language has now been included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
"We need to honour the late great writers of the State.
We must also contributions to their works" he said.
Saying that several organisations have been working hard to promote Manipuri literature, the Chief Minister mentioned that NSPS is one of the important bodies working in this field since its inception.
"I will extend help to set up a proper office building for NSPS.
I request NSPS to select a suitable site for the proposed office building and inform me in detail," Ibobi assured.
Lamabam Brojendro, son of late Dr Kamal, was also present at the event.
The CM later planted saplings inside the Dr Lamabam Kamal Literary Complex where Dr Kamal was born and brought up.
