Imphal, July 09 2014:
A sit-in-protest staged by locals, clubs and Meira Paibis at Uripok Sorbon Thingel Community Hall in Imphal West today strongly condemned the alleged killing of Soram Prakit alias Nanao s/o S Tikendrajit of Uripok Sorbon Thingel who was found dead at a field along Sangakpham Kairang road on July 6 morning, and demanded the government to book the killer(s) within five days failing which they warned of launching intense agitation in collaboration with other civil society organizations.
After the end of the protest, a memorandum was submitted to the Home Minister urging him to do justice to the death at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons in connection with the incident, N Kanan, president of Uripok Sorbon Thingel Women's Welfare Association alleged that Prakit went out from his house on an Activa scooter after singer Alvina Gonsam of Langol Game Village Zone-IV called him out through mobile phone on July 4 at around 7.30 pm.
She narrated that Prakit had telephoned his younger sister the next day morning around 10.30 informing that he was on his way home.
When he did not return home, his younger sister tried to contact him but his mobile phone was switched off.
Informing that the news of Prakit's death was known after police came to the house on July 6 morning, she pointed out that the recovery of a disposal syringe alongside the dead body was a deliberate attempt done by the killer (s) to show that Prakit died of drug overdose.
She further informed that post mortem report had concluded that there were injury marks on the body, head, face, hand and shoulder believed to have caused by some hard objects.
Both the hands were also fractured.
Prakit was a drug user in the past but after he had been living clean for the last six years ago and leading a normal life, she clarified.
