Many demand Sotinkumar's release, State CPI condemns JNU violence

Numerous organisations including trade unions have demanded release of All India Trade Union Congress Manipur State secretary L Sotinkumar today.
A statement of the Co-ordinating Body of Trade Unions Manipur today condemned the arrest of L Sotinkumar and conveyed that many organisations and unions of drivers, bank employees, Asha workers, Mid-day meal workers, MGNREGA workers, Anganwadi workers, Municipal workers, banks employees, teachers, electricity employees, VDFs and home guards etc are demanding the unconditional and immediate release of the left leader.
Alleging that the arrest of L Sotinkumar on December 20 for holding democratic and peaceful protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is against the law and his Constitutional rights, the Coordinating Body of Trade Unions Manipur appealed that he be released before January 14 Drivers' Day.
It may be noted that many organisations, student bodies and the left parties have been demanding release of L Sotinkumar.
More than a dozen including Sotinkumar were detained and arrested for protesting CAA in different parts of the State and all except the left leader were released later.
Many in the State have also been accusing the Government of curtailing and suppressing citizens' voice against the CAA.
Meanwhile, the Manipur State Council of the Communist Party of India has vehemently condemned the violent attack on student leaders and teachers at Jawaharlal Nehru University campus in Delhi on January 5.Demanding Delhi Police to arrest the 'suspected ABVP masked goons' involved in the violent attack at the earliest, the MSC CPI alleged that the incident was a manifestation of Hindutva politics to deface and weaken left's roots in the campus.
Denouncing the fee hike in many universities across the country including JNU, the MSC CPI alleged that the violent attack was an attempt to suppress students' dissenting voices.
It also accused and condemned the Delhi Police of not taking swift action in time to contain the incident in time on the day.
More than 30 including Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) president Aishe Ghosh, students and teachers were injured in the violent attack.
